Training: HLP Health Champions (31st Jul-1st Aug)

We're helping Greater Manchester pharmacies expand the number of Health Champions with free training places on Tuesday 31st July to Wednesday 1st August in Stockport.

The two-day course will lead to a recognised RSPH Level 2 Understanding Health Improvement qualification - this is one of the requirements for pharmacies to achieve, and maintain, their status as Healthy Living Pharmacy Level 1. (Participants must attend both days, complete a multiple-choice test on day two, and produce photographic ID to complete the training.)

(This course is NOT suitable for pharmacy staff who are already trained Health Champions.)

Note: Capacity is limited to 20 people per course. If you've booked a place and cannot attend, you must contact us to cancel or you will be charged a £65 fee.

Training: Flu vaccinations for 2018/19

Make sure your pharmacy is ready to deliver the NHS advanced flu vaccination service this autumn by getting your training up to date. Pharmacists who want to provide NHS flu vaccinations must complete face-to-face training every two years.

CPGM Healthcare Ltd (CHL) is running four training sessions in flu vaccinations and sore throat ‘test and treat’ this summer with ECG and PharmDoctor. The sessions on Sunday 22nd July also include travel vaccination training. The basic package costs £99+VAT (£89+VAT for locums). [Note: Access to the travel vaccine e-tool and PGD is an additional cost.]

The training is only suitable for pharmacists and includes:

  • Flu vaccination training & PGD enabling pharmacies to provide NHS and private flu vaccinations in 2018/19 (all sessions)
  • Sore throat ‘test & treat’ training & PGD (all sessions)
  • Travel clinic vaccinations training & PGD (sessions on Sunday 22nd July only)

News: Oral health events inspire pharmacy teams

Pharmacy staff were able to brush up on their knowledge of oral health – including hygiene, children’s tooth decay, and early signs of cancer – thanks to GM Healthcare Academy.

We joined forces with Greater Manchester dentists for a series of training events to help pharmacy teams deliver a public information campaign raising awareness of tooth decay, mouth cancers and other aspects of oral health.

The events got great feedback from participants with comments including:

  • “Very useful to have dentists present to discuss issues with and get ideas”
  • “Very interesting and tailored to pharmacy daily practice”
  • “Very informative but not overloading with information good visual aids”

Pharmacy teams across Greater Manchester promoted oral health awareness in a campaign during National Smile Month (14th May-14th June).

News: Pharmacies raise awareness of bowel cancer screening

Pharmacy teams across Greater Manchester took part in a mass campaign to raise public awareness of bowel cancer screening, supported by GM Healthcare Academy.

We ran a series of training sessions in March to help pharmacies prepare for the campaign by learning key facts and techniques for initiating conversations with patients eligible for NHS bowel cancer screening. Attendees also received a free resource pack with materials to help them promote the campaign in their pharmacies.

More than 100 pharmacy staff attended the training sessions, with almost all saying the event had enabled them to feel confident chatting to people about bowel cancer screening during the awareness campaign in April.
