GMHCA IS NOT DELIVERING THIS TRAINING.
Now more than ever comes the need for Gold Standard Inhaler Education to enable healthcare professionals to identify poor technique and be confident and able to remotely train their patients on how to improve the delivery of their inhaled therapy.
Updated for 2021
The debate over environmental concerns has continued, with much misunderstanding about the pros and cons of the BTS recommendation to “prioritise” the use of DPIs if the patient is able to use them safely. What remains clear is that poor inhaler technique – with any device - results in greater symptoms, increased risk of exacerbations and unnecessary waste of resource, at the same time that environmental scientists are warning of the consequences of not taking global warming seriously.
By avoiding technical jargon, and by giving straightforward explanations and practical examples, the audience will refresh their understanding of:
Differences between the various inhalers
How each type makes an aerosol
Why changes in particle size, inhalation speed and breath hold, all affect the amount of drug deposited in the various parts of the respiratory tract
How existing problems influence the design of newer inhalers
How knowledge of device function can help in patient reviews during coronavirus-restrictions
The background behind the BTS recommendation on prioritising DPI over MDI use
